During our trip we’ve been wanting to do some canoeing/ kayaking. Here we found some time and a reasonable fare. The goal was to paddle all the way to the United States, touch the land to make it official (take that US Customs), and paddle back to the dock in Canada in the hour time for the rental to keep it on the cheap side. It was easy going out with the wind behind us, but we sure paid for it in sore muscles returning. I kept counting down the minutes left as we got closer to make it back within an hour, giving Miss Daisy incentive to paddle hard. She didn’t know until we docked that I fibbed a little with a 5 minute pad on the time to make sure we would make it. Great exercise and views from the lake
We crossed the US and Canada Border many times in 2009. I am amazed as a Veteran of the US military how hard it seems to be to reenter the United States. So much for being a US Citizen. When we first used our passports going into Canada. The Canadian Border Patrol reminded us to sign our passports (Oops!) sometime further up the road. Imagine the grief the US Border Patrol would have given us? The people in front of us were told to pull over for their violation, so I distracted the agent with questions of what did they do wrong, something about carrying fruit. Really I think it is my smile that gets me in trouble, no one likes to see a Happy Camper!
The rear tire is so worn (hardly any tread left, but on the sides) that we take the bus to the other side of the park on the Going to the Sun Road. Good choice, let them do the driving, as it is pretty narrow in parts since this road was built during the Roosevelt years.
Notice the U-shaped valley, a sign that glaciers once existed.
