Denali National Park

Calcium Chloride is what they put on the Dalton Highway.  Its nice when they finish a section and it is slightly moist.  What a mess though for cleaning...My bike is still not totally clean until I find some soap and  a sponge.  Will be hanging out in Denali NP for about the next week.  A little cooler here than Fairbanks.  Well the Chili is done so I got to go.

Been camping at Denali NP for last four days, weather has been a little cooler than in the eastern portion of Alaska, High 60’s F during the day and Low 40’s at twilight, been wondering about fireworks for the 4th. Not probable up north, maybe if we go further south near Seward, but they’ll have to wait until midnight for it to kinda get dark.

Seen lots of wildlife...Pack of Wolves and pups, Grizzly bears and cubs, Lynx, Snowshoe hairs, Caribou (reindeer), Moose and calves, Ground Squirrels (prairie dogs), Red Squirrel, Terns (seagull), and a mouse.  If you don't like snakes, Alaska is the place to come as their are none.  Only Amphibian is a frog that actually freezes during the winter and thaws back to life in spring, Only God could of designed that, awesome.  What follows is our day trip on the park bus into the interior of Denali National Park to the Eielson Point in hopes of seeing “Denali” (native word for Mt. McKinley).

Some of the park roads were very narrow, it’s a long ways down to the bottom!

The Goldwing is showing me more problems at its current odometer reading of 77,675 miles, 6,000 miles into the trip. Water pump is still leaking as I just keep adding water every 300-500 miles or so, but now my right front fork seal is leaking oil. I meant it when I said I would be limping home. It has been some tough miles on the machine.

Campsite Denali NP

We were the talk of the campsite.  Several husbands or boyfriends would tell there significant other, “See they rode all the way from Tennessee.”  Guess they had to leave there bike behind.

Looks like several days of sunshine and the temps are getting into the upper 70'sF now here at Denali as the weather has moved on north/west, Not sure about circulation here, might be just south of Polar Circulation pattern. Maybe We’ll be able to see Mt. McKinley’s summit at 20,320’ Highest in N. America. How those climbers do it is beyond me. The summer climb is colder than Mt. Everest during the winter months. Experienced people have died this year climbing it, two doctors. Seems like there are always fatalities each year. Maybe we will see some climbers on our flight around the mountain.

Only 30% of the folks that visit Denali get to actually see the mountain due to cloud coverage.  This was our first day to see it, so Magnificent!
