Anchorage, Alaska

Miss Daisy found her car Gwennie's Grizzly in Gwennie's House of Harley, Anchorage, AK

Hey fellow motorcyclist, found a place you can camp for free!  Its at the House of Harley in Anchorage, but you have to be on a motorcycle.  We will be moving our campsite tomorrow out of the Ghetto (as we’re camping in the inner city).  If your a soft sleeper and the Sun didn't keep you awake, the train, planes, sirens, and roaring motor vehicles would, also known as Urban Camping.  Now the only noise will be the seaplanes landing/taking off at Lake Hood since we moved. LOL

Today we went to the House of Harley and the Air Museum by Lake Hood (largest seaplane airport).  We also visited the earthquake park.  We also picked up the oil needed for our coming oil change at WalMart for the same price as back home.

We were told by a fellow pilot that has flown up here that we needed to go to two places while we were here in Anchorage.  One was Gwennie’s for a wonderful breakfast and the other was to visit the Millennium Hotel, not to stay but to go to the patio and order some chips and your favorite drink.  He would not tell us why, but as the first float plane flew overhead and landed on Lake Hood, it became very clear.  Bravo!

Oh some of you motorcyclist will laugh as I had to don a reflective vest to ride on base at Elmendorf AFB and Ft. Richardson in Anchorage, AK.  But the guard didn't tell me to put on full finger gloves...go figure?

So today we went to walk downtown where the tourist traps are.  I read the headlines today in a paper where they are saying tourism is down in Alaska.  My first thought is get rid of your parking meters and the 2 hour limit.  Who can visit Anchorage in 2 hours and enjoy it?  Cheap old me finds a place to park several blocks away and that is even questionable.  We do the same thing for the 8 hour train ride to save some money and hassle.

Tourism may be down, but this has been the best year to visit Alaska as there has been hardly any rain.  We didn’t even get any rain, where it is usually the wettest down in the southern west coast of Alaska.  I think the temperatures have been warmer too.  This has been the best trip I have ever done, the memories will last for a lifetime!
